Find Your Way

The Freer|Sackler is located on the National Mall, the grassy area between the Capitol and the Washington Monument. The Freer building is closed for renovation, reopening in 2017, so plan to enter through the Haupt Garden (accessible entrance) to begin your Asian art immersion.

When you visit, we recommend taking public transportation, including taxis, as on-street parking is extremely limited. The museum is steps from the Smithsonian Metro stop.

The Basics

We are open 10 am–5:30 pm every day except December 25.

Admission is free.

Getting Here

Public transportation is your best bet. Limited on-street parking is available, including reserved spaces for visitors with disabilities.

Coming by Bus?

The United States Park Police (202.426.6841) discourages bus parking on the Mall. Try the recommended bus parking areas.

As renovation work continues in the Freer Gallery, the Sackler Gallery also will close on July 10, 2017. This museum-wide closure will allow us to completely reinstall our exhibitions and revitalize features to improve your visit. Both spaces will reopen on October 14, 2017, when we will welcome the public back to the Freer|Sackler: two galleries, one destination. For your safety, all visitors will have their bags checked. See the complete list of restricted items and bag sizes.
