The Actor Sodezaki Miwano Playing a Shamisen
Another kabuki actor is depicted in his role as a courtesan playing the shamisen, the plucked lute used in kabuki, bunraku, and a variety of informal entertainments. The shimmering effect in this woodblock print was achieved by applying color embellished with brass powder.
