Saturday, September 26th, 2009
10:15 am-1:15 pm
Location: Freer Gallery of Art
Learn about the fascinating but often overlooked world of trade across the Indian Ocean through web resources and art objects. Teachers will explore the rich resource www.indianoceanhistory.org developed by the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center and examine Islamic art from the collections of the Freer Gallery of Art. Participate in a collegial dialogue about the unexpected connections that can be uncovered through a study of the Indian Ocean trade over time, and develop an activity that works for your classroom. All participants will receive free teaching resources. Please prepare for an active working session. Bring a laptop if you have one!
Light refreshments will be provided.
This workshop is free of charge. Space is limited.
