Smithsonian Secretary G. Wayne Clough dropped by the Freer Gallery of Art on May 21, 2014, to check out the procedures and progress of the Rapid Capture Pilot Project. The video provides a brief overview of the workflow path, from staging, quality control, and image capture to making digitized images available to the public through online collections.

In May 2014 the Freer Gallery of Art hosted the fourth Rapid Capture Pilot Project led by the Smithsonian’s Digitization Program Office. This effort, designed to digitize vast numbers of collection items quickly and efficiently, focused on a variety of Asian ceramics in the Freer Study Collection. This is the first time digital images have been made available of this collection, which was established when the Freer Gallery of Art opened in 1923.
